PADANG, Indonesia (Aug. 22, 2016) Steelworker 3rd Class Roy Hughes, from Boston, plays with local children at the construction site of the Padang Sarai village community center. Pacific Partnership 2016 and Tentara Nasional Indonesia service members are working together to build a community center that will also serve as a shelter in a disaster for the village of Padang Sarai. This is the fifth time Pacific Partnership has visited Indonesia. Partner nations are working side-by-side with local organizations during disaster response training, civil engineering projects, Women, Peace, and Security seminars, medical subject matter expert exchanges and a live field training exercise aimed at improving the capacity of local government, civilian agencies and partner militaries to collectively respond in crisis.
