SAN DIEGO (April 8, 2014) Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Matthew Schulthess, right, from Santa Rosa, Calif., and Gunner’s Mate Seaman Joseph Russell, from Salem, Ore., man a .50 Caliber machine gun aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Ronald Reagan is transiting to its homeport at Naval Base Coronado. After 23 days at sea, the ship successfully completed tailored ship’s training availability (TSTA) and its final evaluation problem (FEP). TSTA/FEP is a graded event where trainers test the ship’s ability to conduct combat missions, survive complex casualties and sustain support functions.
