Celebration of Life 2013

The Blood Center honored its gold-level donor groups on Feb. 20 at the annual "A Celebration of Life" luncheon and awards presentation.

More than 800 businesses, churches, schools and other organizations achieved this distinction in 2012 by hosting blood drives at least once every quarter.

Held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, the event celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Commit for Life program. Several blood recipients who participated in the Commit for Life campaign photo shoot over the past 10 years were invited to attend as guests of honor.

The event also featured a testimonial by Ann-Marie Servos, who received blood transfusions in addition to a stem cell transplant throughout her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Jennifer Reyna, traffic anchor from KPRC Local 2, presented Special Category Awards to groups that went above and beyond in their life-saving efforts in 2012.
