North Houston resident Hector Garza is the grand prize winner of a diamond tennis bracelet from Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center as part of the Diamonds for Donors promotion, in which all who donated in April were eligible. During the promotion, four Commit for Life donors each won a set of Fossil-brand watches, while Garza took home the grand prize.
Garza first learned of his prize during a phone call in the middle of his daughter’s wedding. It’s only fitting that he plans to give the bracelet to his daughter as she starts her new life. Garza made his winning blood donation at the Bill T. Teague Neighborhood Donor Center at 1400 La Concha.
“My moral compass tells me to help people,” said Garza. “I would expect someone to do the same for me. Donating blood is not something I was taught to do by family or peers, but I just decided it was important.”
