Baby Bryson Turns One!
When baby Bryson Heckler reached his first birthday this year on Oct. 12, it was a special cause of celebration for his family.
Since birth, Bryson has had about 30 blood transfusions as a result of Guillain-Barré syndrome. On Oct. 24 and Nov. 1, 2008, the Heckler family hosted blood drives to mark Bryson’s birthday and to honor the blood donors that sustained his life.
“We know blood is very important,” says Mary Heckler, who is Bryson’s grandmother and the blood drive chairperson. “We want to help all the other kids out there like Bryson who need blood donations.”
