Project 365 #96: 060423 Seeking Neutral Ground

I've had a bit of trouble with the ignition barrel on my bike in recent months, with the key having to be in a 'just so' position for the bike to run.

I don't want it to fail when I'm on the road, so I ordered up a replacement barrel, which I started work on today. The replacement part was a perfect fit and the harness corresponded perfectly.

Alas, the internal wiring is different meaning that the ignition shorted two pins that it shoudn't have and burned out my gearbox neutral circuit.

With a bike gearbox, they're commonly sequential, with one kick down for first, then kicks up to go up through the gears, with neutral being between 1 and 2. It's not always obvious when you're in neutral so there's an indicator to let you know. Mine doesn't.

I broke out the multimeter to try and trace the fault and it looks like it's the switch itself which has failed. That's relatively easy to replace, so I'll that as a win. I don't have one, that's less of a win.
