Cormorants chirped and tweeted on line

For as long as I can remember, we've driven by this scene (well not as abstracted), just down the road from our home near a nature preserve. Forever I've made it a tradition to "count" the number of perched birds which gather to as many as 30 or more each night during the summer months. And I've always wished I'd had my camera. Well tonight I was only carrying my point and shoot, but got a few shots before total darkness set in. Of course I felt like playing and here's the result. Interestingly, before googling these amazing seabirds, I had no idea that they feature quite commonly in heraldry and medieval ornamentation, usually in their "wing-drying" pose, which was seen as representing the Christian cross.

“Cell phones, to me, are a joke. When we grew up we had a party line for six homes, meaning you had to wait for everyone else from the other five homes to be off the line before you could make a call. You know what? Society seemed to get along fine. When you got your own telephone land line, it was like you were a wealthy person.” ~ Charles Gallagher ~

Can you imagine this world today without cell phones!?!
