Eclipse with solar prominences (not flares) - Canon Powershot unfiltered
They told me I could see the eclipse without special glasses during totality. I figured I could do the same with my aging Canon Powershot at 1365mm equivalent. .Little did I expect to find flames shooting out into space - a phenomenon called a Solar Prominence. The web says: A solar prominence (also known as a filament) is an arc of gas that erupts from the surface of the Sun. Prominences can loop hundreds of thousands of miles into space. Cool. Or, rather, hot . . . very hot.
