4/100 - Konstantina

This isn't a great photo. The lighting is too harsh and comes from at least two different coloured sources, giving a green cast on the left and magenta on the right. But getting a great photo wasn't the point of today's exercise.

I had the pleasure of taking an exhibit along to the National Museum of Flight where some friends were helping on an outreach program for the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh. I thought this would be a good location to see lots of strangers and perhaps get a photo or two. We were placed underneath the Concorde on display in the museum and while the aircraft itself is well lit, the people milling around it weren't. Outside conditions weren't much better with the airfield bathed in a dull misty light.

Towards the end of the day I felt I had to find someone to photograph as I was running out of time.

Konstantina was at the event on behalf of the Royal Observatory Edinburgh and was using a thermal imaging camera to explain to visitors how viewing in infra red could bring out different details in astronomy. I had tried to capture a candid shot of her earlier, but the light just wasn't playing.

Encouraged by my friend Rachel, herself a great photographer, I asked Konstantina if she would take part in my project, She agreed right away and said that she was used to being photographed as her sister liked photography. Konstantina is originally from Greece but had come over with her boyfriend who was working in Edinburgh. She likes to dance, especially the Tango and we had a good chat about old people dancing :)

Much as she likes dancing she would not like to do it professionally and is enjoying working with ROE and if I remember correctly also in a coffee shop in Edinburgh.

So while the photo isn't the best I have done, I'm glad to have had a decent chat with my subject and got more than just a name.

PS Konstantina, I hope I have spelled your name correctly, the photo with your id card was too blurry for me to read!

This picture is #4 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
