This Old School

@dailyshoot: 2010/04/15: Every town, village, or city has distinguishing icons and landmarks. Make a photo of one wherever you are today. #ds151

This is definitely the "big" attraction in this small town. Maybe the only one. The single room log school house os the oldest standing school on Arizona.

It was built around 1884, at an agrreed spot between two cabins at the est and west end of the Valley.

It was in use only until 1916; later the roof rotted and was replaced by locals in the 1960s when they restored it.

The story I read at the Pine-Strawberry Museum was that in those times, chalk was pretty precious. The teacher at the time started keeping kids after school as ore chalk disappeared, as well as pencils and even jewelry.

The kids never told.

They never had anything to tell.

When they restored the roof, they found mice middens full of chalk fragments and bits of jewelry.
