I miss my iPhone

I guess I should be more careful around electronics. Every piece of technology I touch seems to last one-two years tops. I have bad luck with technology. Computers frying, hard drives failing, phones crapping out, VCRs eating up tapes. This time it could have been preventable somewhat.

I somehow managed to drop my iPhone several times a day, and nothing came out of it, maybe once in a while there'd be a ding here or a small scratch there, but the screen of my trusty white iPhone 3G finally cracked back in July. Only days earlier the screen started fading to a white screen where I wasn't able to do anything. It was easily fixable by pressing down on the screen hard.

On Sunday the phone fell off the table, and now it's no longer possible to get past the white screen. I've been saving money for an iPhone 4 for a while, but I was planning on getting one sans contract/unlocked, also, it was going to be the white model. Instead, I decided to call up Rogers and try to do a hardware upgrade to the iPhone 4, no can do. Every Rogers/Futureshop store in all of Brandon (hell make that most of Canada) is SOLD OUT of iPhone 4s. One dealer said he could put me on his waiting list, but there's already 70 people on that.

Seriously, why is it much harder get an iPhone this time around than it was in 2008 when the iPhone 3G launch occured, I understand that it's hard to build an iPhone 4 than an iPhone 3G, but I was able to order an iPhone 3G on launch day over the phone. Now.. not even Rogers call centre can help.

I miss my iPhone 3G, I'm stuck with an HTC TyTn (circa 2006) with Windows Mobile 6, it's not a pleasure to deal with at all. I do like the slide out keyboard, but that's all. I can't wait until I'm able to get something better and move on. The death of the iPhone happens only 2 days after Rogers 3G service is unofficially turned on here in Brandon (ps - I am the tipster).

I'm heading to Futureshop/Walmart/MTS Connect with my girlfriend in an hour, I may get an Android if there's no iPhones in stock but frankly, when I was playing around with iPhone 4 at Apple Store a month ago.. I was in awe. As for my girlfriend, she might be getting a Blackberry.. wow.. her first smartphone! Good for her!

Wish me luck..

Edit (Late evening, same day): Well I was lucky and got an iPhone 4! Futureshop actually had stock available for once, so I renewed my contract then and there. Really wasn't hoping to sign another contract but that's how things roll I suppose.
