Killarney Teardrop Hike

by CodingNinja

Originally I was planning on doing a hike in Algonquin Park in February, on one of their interpretive hikes, but after mentioning that to a colleague, he suggested Killarney. And so the plans started to formulate for a winter hike in Killarney, on snowshoes, and a group of colleagues from the office were invited. In the end it was just two of us.
The plan was a 5-6 hour hike, with the main destination being Teardrop Lake. We would start out from George Lake campground on the La Cloche Silhouette Trail, then at Little Sheguiandah Lake we would split from the trail, making our own way. My colleague Patrick, wanted to try and find an abandoned portage between George Lake and OSA Lake, but we had a lot of difficulties finding it covered in snow, and actually never did. It led to a lot of bushwhacking, but we did meet our goal of Teardrop Lake. It also extended our hike by a bit, we were out for 10 hours on this one!
It was a great day with lots of beautiful views and a really challenging experience into the backcountry of Killarney.
