Examining the board...

I love strategy games. After I found my old set of French Solitaire (also known as Peg Solitaire or Patience), I immediately played a few rounds. I used to play this game all the time when I was a kid, but this was the first time I tried playing a strategy board game blind. I had to examine the position of the pegs on the board by felling it with my fingers and then visualise my next move. It was challenging, but great fun!

A lot of board games can be adapted so that people who are visually impaired or blind can play them, too, either with other blind people or with sighted people. The solutions don't have to be expensive. For example, just sticking raised dots or small plastic stickers to a set of pieces (tokens) can enable a blind person to be able to play checkers again. It's a great way to connect the two worlds: the world of the blind and the world of the sighted people!
