Nishkam Seva Gudwara Sahib, Gateway

A beautiful ironwork gateway opened, seen at sunset at the Nishkam Seva Gudwara Sahib community center in Glendale, Arizona. Map here. The golden domes at sunset are stunning, stop by sometime when you can. The more I learned about the community devoted to selfless service, the more I appreciated them.

I had no idea that Sikh is the 5th largest organized religion in the world and was fascinated by the wikipedia article here:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikhism

"The principal belief of Sikhism is faith in waheguru—represented using the sacred symbol of ik ōaṅkār, the Universal God. Sikhism advocates the pursuit of salvation through disciplined, personal meditation on the name and message of God. A key distinctive feature of Sikhism is a non-anthropomorphic concept of God, to the extent that one can interpret God as the Universe itself."

A sad note to history, just after 9-1-1, a Phoenix area Sikh member was killed at Mesa store, a racial crime committed likely by his appearance interpreted as a Middle Eastern or Muslim man. Another was murdered in 2003. This beautiful faith and marvelous religious community built their temple in the last few years and the golden domes can be seen north of Highway 101 near 51st Avenue.
