Communication

The person in the foreground is Deaf and blind. She is learning how to use a computer. Her interpreter is translating the instructor's comments to the student. The method used by many who are Deaf-blind is called tactile sign language.

This image is really all about individual differences, alternative forms of communication, and yes, the concepts of trust, humanity, sharing and love.

For a description of how people who are both deaf and blind communicate, read on:

FYI: our agency has an outstanding instructor for classes to teach those who are blind or vision impaired how to use a computer and access the Internet. He is blind. It is amazing to see how a teacher who is blind teaches a student who is blind. Most amazing of all is a teacher who is blind teaching a student who is blind and deaf. The population in America of those who are both deaf and blind is increasing. For one component of this situation, consider an aging population who faces macular degeneration (age-related macular degeneration) and age-related hearing impairment.
