Shanghai - Former British Consulate

This is the former British consulate complex close to the northern end of the Bund. On the left is the former residence of the consul (built 1884), on the right the consulate itself (built 1872). On old Shanghai maps you'll find it as H.B.M. Consulate (H.B.M. = His/Her British Majesty).

The slightly taller building in the right background is the Shanghai Peninsula Hotel.

In the central background the Pearl of the Orient tower, Jin Mao Tower and the SWFC, all located on the Pudong side of the Huangpu River.

Though the official location is 33 Zhongshan East No.1 Road (中山东一路33号), this is shot from the rear side of the complex, Yuanmingyuan Road.

Please also note that flickr's crappy location database wrongly states "Hongkou" instead of Huangpu, even if the photo is placed correctly onto the map/satellite image.
