Buzludzha Monument, Bulgaria
The Buzludzha monument (Бузлуджа), located on a remote peak in the Balkan Mountains, is one of the most impressive communist era monuments in the country. Opened in 1981, it was built to commemorate the foundation of the Bulgarian Communist Party, which took place at this spot in 1891.
After the fall of the iron curtain and the political change in Bulgaria, it was abandoned. The metal roof was destroyed by looters and the building is decaying more and more.
I was just about to leave when I noticed wafts of mist creeping in through the broken ceiling - the building was immersed in a cloud. I knew I had very little time before it would be completely foggy inside, so I quickly set up my camera again and was able to capture this panorama.
A few minutes later I wasn't able to see the opposite wall anymore.
