For John

Let's talk about grief, and the artistic process. A good friend of mine passed away this week, at the age of 36. I first met him a little over 10 years ago, when I was discovering the local music scene in my area. Little did I know at the time, but I was meeting the people who I would become friends with for the rest of my life.

I have zero musical talent, but the opportunity to be around these individuals, to be able to see it take shape, was utterly amazing. Think about this: when a song is written, since the dawn of time, that song has never been. And then all of a sudden, it is. And while eventually buildings will crumble, sculptures will weather and wear, and even the Mona Lisa will turn to dust in enough time, music is entirely different. As long as there's someone to listen, it is truly forever.

And that's real art. This thing I do with Lego is a cheap imitation, but, it's my cheap imitation. So this build is equal parts therapy, memorial, and just needing to do *something* to get it out. I hope you enjoy it. Below are links to a couple of songs to listen to, and the GoFundMe page set up to help cover funeral expenses, if you're so inclined.

The namesake of this build, Highway by she swings, she sways

My favorite she swings, she sways song, Flown the Coop

I miss you and love you, John.
