Tidal Bore 1

When I was driving down to Halifax, I saw a sign on the side of the road mentioning a bore tide viewing place (the nearby Bay of Fundy has the world's highest tide difference). On my way back to PEI the next morning, I looked up the location and tide charts and found that I had timed my later-than-intended departure from Halifax absolutely perfectly for a tidal bore viewing. I arrived at the Salmon River viewing area less than five minutes before the tide arrived.

When it arrived, the crowd (about 50 people) oohed and awed. It wasn't a particularly big bore, and it wasn't quite as dramatic as watching the wave span the entire width of Turnagain Arm (south of Anchorage--it has the world's second-highest tide), but it was a cool experience to see the flow of the Salmon River literally reverse course in front of your eyes.
