Berblinger 3.0

200 yeras Berblinger / Ulm 2011

The City of Ulm celebrtaed for the 200. anniversary of their visionary citizen Albrecht Ludwig Berblinger, a technical inventor who build some flying-apperatures in the 19th century a big festival with many cultural events all over the city.

The installation took place on the Danube along the Adlerbastei, the place where back then Berblinger tried to fly with his apperature but crashed after a short flight into the river.

The aim of the production was to absorb the image of the ancient human dream of flying and to connecting it with the historical space the installation was taking place.

In its staging, the sculpture was a big, video-mapped wing that was mounted on a lightweight aluminium platform. With additional sound and lighting, the set was carried by three mobile floats which could go in every direction on the water.

On a drive of 1000m on the river passing that point, where Berblinger once took off and failed, the sculpture illustrated with an orchestration of image and sound the history of flight from the very first dream of mankind to fly till the present day.

The medial dramaturgy of the content was shaped to a climax happening at that time, Berblinger chronologicaly appeared in the illustrated history as an inventor - all happening exact at that time the stage was passing the point on the riverside Berblinger once jumped. Therefore, all actions of video-content, lighting and sound were synchronized via GPS to the postion of the stage, giving the moving stage a dynamic controlling.
