Inverted Trough Passage_TL

Normally, when an upper level low moves from west to east in the jet stream it trails a cold front from northeast to southwest in the northern hemisphere. However, the current weather system over Wyoming has a trailing trough oriented from northwest to southeast. This results in very strong winds. It also causes the weather system to slow its movement east and often results in a retrograde movement from east to west. This causes a period of prolonged high winds.

We are expecting hurricane force gusts for up to 48 hours starting later today!
