Chalk Dusted

The Chalk Cliffs that comprise the knees and shins of Mount Princeton (14,204 ft; 4,329 m) gleam in afternoon autumn sun along the Sawatch Range near Salida, Colorado.

About three quarters of the way up the mountain a human-made line is discernible, a road that most certainly is best navigated with high clearance. I took our EuroVan some way up this road due to a series of preventable events, and found my consternation rising with the elevation. The road was embellished regularly with great, effective water bars, and I began to feel that high-centering was looming prominently in my future. Fortunately, I was able to find a corner in the road just wide enough to accommodate the full length of the van plus a couple buffer feet. I then explored the limits of patience with a sixteen-or-so-point turn and managed to turn around and retreat to safety. The retreat was another story in itself, as EuroVans are heavy and thus cannot be continually braked down the slopes of Mount Princeton.
