20040301 - ZARF!

So, does anyone know what "zarf" means in Turkish? Funny story behind this one... That involves me pissing someone in Istanbul off!

I was trying to get some rare metal VCD. Maybe a Sabbat or Celtic Frost live show. I don't even remember. The guy's email address was "TURKEY OLDSCHOOL ".

However, PayPal doesn't do business with Turkey. Or at least they didn't at the time. I was told to sign up with Ikobo, but they wanted an extra $20 for shipping! WTF! So to save money, I had to actually put *cash* in an envelope, and mail it to Istanbul.

Obviously this was too suspicious for the intrusive American government. They intercepted the package.

MANY weeks went by, during which I was reported on Ebay as a non-paying member! My standing was damaged!

i eventually left him negative feedback on Ebay as well, before the deadline elapsed.

I also mentioned "The Turkey postal system must have stolen my money.". It turns out I was wrong. I also didn't know that insulting Turkey is a crime in Turkey. He didn't take it lightly, saying "Turkey postal service is the reliablest postal service of the Europe! We have a really cool system and no one can venture to stole the money! If you can proove that you send the payment, I take it off... pls send me a scan of post receipt".

I told him I don't keep receipts for 80-cent mailings, and "I knew not to trust Turkey", and told him the VCDs were probably infringing on copyright anyway (Not that I care). I definitely was not nice. He then said: "and I'm not afraid of your black mails... Why don't you try to speak with good words? You are a typical american person! If you didn't send black mails, I can do it. I also did it for another people that refused the item.. He told the situation I didn't care for a few dolars... Pls be good man and do not send any black mails... we can solve the problem without trouble... oh and you know that I could leave negative feedback to you but I didn't..."

*** Fast forward a few more weeks ***, finally the money came. America had opened my letter "by mistake". There was a scan of the letter that the USPS wrote, but I lost it. At least they didn't take my cash. And Mr. Kizil? He got to send a big "I told you so" email with this picture attached, called ZARF.JPG.

His email read:

"well

it's me again... I just want to know that I received the payment at last... And I want to show you what the reason of problem is...

here is your envelope and writing on it says that your perfect postalservice open it in error(!) and nylon package says that

"Dear Receiver

Your mail arrived as damaged and it was got into security bag to reach you without any trouble"

see the difference between your country and me... I hope you are ambressed with your words you said to my land and I hope you gave up thoughts that World is the USA and it is perfect!...

you know that I might not tell you that I receive the payment and also I didn't send your item but I'm a honest person! Your package is on the way..."

Eventually he removed the non-payer warning off my Ebay account and we parted our separate ways.

Not my most civil moment, but then again, how many times have YOU gotten the opportunity to piss off a Turkish video bootleger from Istanbul (not Constantinople)? Haha.

envelope, homeland security, plastic bag.

USPS. received and opened in error. zarf.

Istanbul, Turkey.
