20071214 - Tile flooring - 143-4382 - vinyl composite tile samples

Some of the VCT (vinyl composite tiles) we were considering. We went with a diagonal checkboard of black, and violet bloom. But when we got the violet bloom, it was closer to blue than violet. Thanks for nothing, Armstrong.

BACKSTORY: Now that we finally got everything painted, it was time to re-floor the downstairs. Today we drove around and checked some out.

Unfortunately, the Armstrong Excelon tiles we selected scratch very easily, so we were no better off than if we had gotten parquet, which we didn't get because we didn't watn to deal with unrepairable scratches... D'oh! Of course it would have helped if Marty Engel at Floorcraft had bothered to advise us that we were supposed to polish and seal it afterwards. Armstrong's website mentions this, but how were we supposed to know we needed to even look this up? We're not sure how we feel about FloorCraft after this job. There's yet to be a contractor that has actually gotten us the results we want -- with anything. And We can't really properly seal and polish it properly now, because the pool table and furniture has all been moved back.

Anyway: Avoid Armstrong Excelon. Also: Their sample colors were quite different than the real thing. They say that, but still. The sample was a "better" shade, and then when we bought the actual tiles, they were a "worse" shade. The difference was not minor. It almost seems that they go out of their way to concentrate more of their color into the samples, in order to trick people into thinking the colors are more vibrant than they really are.
