20071006-08 - building Hades - 139-3907 - motherboard (Abit IP35 Pro) - ports view

This motherboard had more stuff built in than any I've ever used. TWO ethernet ports, built-in optical digital audio out (for clean music with no ground loop buzz!), SIX on-board SATA harddrive ports (that's 4.5TB if you use 750G drives!), 4 PCI slots, and 2 PCI express slots (1 of which was tiny). It also has eSATA (external SATA) connectors for at least 2 more drives. I also think the heat sink design is pretty neat.

It also has 6-speaker mini-jack output, but since I'm using optical audio I ultimatley wont be using these. (I'm using just one of these outputs now, as the stereo upstiars is my dad's 1970s unit. Must buy real home theatre receiver soon.)

BACKSTORY: So, as mentioned before (in a 10-part series of blog posts), my trusty computer of 9 years, "Storm", died a nasty death. My secondary/kitchen computer "Hell" stepped up to bat and took Storm's place, but I still needed a new computer for our somewhat newly-built upstairs space. So I built Hades, during which I wrote another 5 blog posts. These are the pictures I took while building it.
