CliffMuller says:
The composition with the foreground books is really nice and it works well to have the open page edge of the stack of books facing the camera rather than the bindings - which may be more of a distraction. The light background and foreground books form a nice frame, drawing attention immediately to the subject

Very nice portrait. Black and white is also a good choice to highlight the many textures here: the sweater, couch, hat, facial hair. The placement of the eyes in relation to the top of the dark background bookcase work really well -- light face with dark bookcase framed by dark hat against light wall/ceiling background.
CliffMuller says:
A nice example of the quintessential library shot -- shooting through an opening in the books. This really works because there's the sense you're catching a private moment that we were not intended to see. As an intentional portrait, I might need to add a small fill flash on the shelf in front of the subject to eliminate shadows, but this is still a great example.
