9/25/16 - Severe Erosion Damage Survey in Bread and Cheese Creek

9/25/16 – documenting the severe erosion damage existing and worsening in Bread and Cheese Creek due to the outdated stormwater management employed in the area. Each stormwater event millions of gallons of water swell the stream 8 – 10 foot above it’s normal level flooding adjacent property, blocking roads, and causing wide scale erosion damage to every area adjacent to the stream. The current stormwater system is designed to have all impervious surfaces (streets, parking lots, roadways, alleys, etc.) drain directly into Bread and Cheese Creek with no buffer areas carrying with it trash, toxins and surface pollutants into the stream, then into Back River and eventually the Chesapeake Bay. The TMDL (Total Daily Maximum Load) for a healthy Chesapeake Bay calls for reductions in all Nutrients (fertilizer, etc.) and sediment (soil) flowing into the Bay and each time it rains both these substances enter the bay by the score in our community. A few month ago Maryland Environmental Service surveyed Bread and Cheese Creek and classified it’s erosion and channel/bank degradation as severe and in need of restoration but relayed to me there was no money in the budget to do so.
