Le Bassin est un port intérieur du XIXe siècle et également le nom d'une rue du centre de la ville néerlandaise de Maastricht . Le Bassin est situé au nord du Boschstraatkwartier et fait partie du nouveau quartier culturel Sphinxkwartier . Les bâtiments des côtés nord et est portent l'adresse Bassin ou Maasmolendijk ; sur les côtés sud et ouest, c'est Bassinkade . Le pont du Bassin divise le port en deux.
Le port en forme de L est souvent considéré comme le terminus sud du canal Zuid-Willemsvaart , mais il en fait en réalité partie. Le Zuid-Willemsvaart est relié à la Meuse par l'écluse 20 après avoir franchi le Bassin .
Du côté sud, le long du quai haut, se trouvent plusieurs entrepôts et immeubles d'habitation restaurés. Le Maastrichtsch Veem (Entrepôt de Maastricht), datant de 1860, est le plus remarquable. Ce haut bâtiment imposant, aux éléments néoromans, abrite aujourd'hui des logements et des bureaux. Cafés et restaurants sont installés dans les anciennes caves du quai, au bord de l'eau. La capitainerie, située à côté des escaliers, côté ouest, n'est plus tenue par un capitaine ; des distributeurs automatiques de billets ont pris le relais. Le petit bâtiment, restauré vers 2000, compte deux étages, accessibles depuis le quai haut et le quai bas. Le bâtiment blanc Eiffel (1929-1941) se dresse à l'arrière-plan.
The Bassin is a 19th-century inland port and also the name of a street in the center of the Dutch city of Maastricht. The Bassin is located north of the Boschstraatkwartier and is part of the new Sphinxkwartier cultural district. Buildings on the north and east sides are addressed as Bassin or Maasmolendijk; on the south and west sides, it is Bassinkade. The Bassin Bridge divides the harbor in two.
The L-shaped harbor is often considered the southern terminus of the Zuid-Willemsvaart Canal, but it is actually part of it. The Zuid-Willemsvaart is connected to the Meuse River via Lock 20 after passing through the Bassin.
On the south side, along the high quay, are several restored warehouses and apartment buildings. The Maastrichtsch Veem (Maastricht Warehouse), dating from 1860, is the most notable. This imposing, tall building, with neo-Romanesque features, now houses housing and offices. Cafés and restaurants are located in the former quayside cellars, along the water's edge. The harbor master's office, located next to the stairs on the west side, is no longer staffed by a captain; ATMs have taken over. The small building, restored around 2000, has two floors, accessible from both the upper and lower quays. The white Eiffel building (1929-1941) stands in the background.
