Depuis 1873, des hommes étudient les astres à l’Observatoire du Pic du Midi. L’astronomie, science des corps célestes, est le domaine d’excellence du site pyrénéen, avec l’étude du soleil, des étoiles et des planètes. Le télescope Bernard Lyot permet ainsi depuis 1981 de mieux connaître les étoiles et les galaxies. De nombreux programmes de recherches ont été effectués au Pic du Midi. Aujourd’hui, l’Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées mène ses travaux dans 3 thématiques principales.

La plateforme technique de l’Observatoire du Pic du Midi de Bigorre a pour mission d’apporter un soutien technique, logistique aux expériences scientifiques de l’ Obervatoire Midi-Pyrénées.
Elle assure la bonne marche des observations et TP d’enseignement supérieur implantés au Pic du Midi. Les expériences en cours couvrent tous les domaines thématiques des sciences de l’univers avec six coupoles astronomiques en deux services d’observation en astronomie (TBL, T1M, T60, LJR, couronne solaire, météo de l’espace) et douze expériences de laboratoires de l’OMP, et autres laboratoires de la communauté nationale et internationale. Le Pic du Midi est notamment l’un des deux sites d’accueil et d’observation de la Plate-forme Pyrénéenne d’Observation Atmosphérique.
Since 1873, people have been studying the stars at the Pic du Midi Observatory. Astronomy, the science of celestial bodies, is the area of excellence of the Pyrenean site, with the study of the sun, stars and planets. Since 1981, the Bernard Lyot telescope has thus made it possible to better understand stars and galaxies. Many research programs have been carried out at the Pic du Midi. Today, the Midi-Pyrénées Observatory carries out its work in 3 main themes.

The technical platform of the Pic du Midi de Bigorre Observatory aims to provide technical and logistical support for the scientific experiments of the Midi-Pyrénées Observatory.
It ensures the smooth running of observations and higher education practical work located at the Pic du Midi. The experiments in progress cover all thematic areas of the sciences of the universe with six astronomical domes in two observation services in astronomy (TBL, T1M, T60, LJR, solar corona, space weather) and twelve laboratory experiments of the OMP, and other laboratories of the national and international community. The Pic du Midi is notably one of the two reception and observation sites of the Pyrenean Atmospheric Observation Platform.
