During our last few months together, this song came on the radio several times while driving to a trail walk: "Eternal Flame" by The Bangles. For some reason I can't explain, every time it came on I would get a really strong feeling as if this voice was Blanca's actual voice! And so this has become her song.
To observe the one year mark of her passing (5 Oct 2021), I improvised a little ceremony.
The wooden box with her portrait has its own story: In order to console me after losing Blanca, my sister found this man who is a self-taught artist burning images with a laser onto wood. She sent him a photo of Blanca and he reproduced it so beautifully on this little treasure chest! I keep her items in it, her collar, the bandanna she wore when she died, the little mouse toy, sympathy cards and a clump of hair from her comb.
