Desertion
Eight years. Eight long, hot, dusty years I've wandered through this wasteland, searching for other non-hostile survivors. Everybody I meet I'm forced to kill. People say there is no mercy in the apocalypse, but I try to exercise mercy whenever possible.
The apocalyptic landscape is not devoid of color. The ancient barns that dot the rural farmland (or what was rural before the disaster) are reddish brown and the green floating islands are a welcome sight. The islands have an interesting story. They were all held up by an immense force (what it was and how it worked was above the brainpower of most of the population) that was housed somewhere in England. When this force was destroyed purely by accident in the disaster, all the floating islands came crashing to Earth. They are still green because they still have a huge reservoir of water inside them, keeping the grass green. I like to lie on the grass after a long day. It reminds me of my home, almost a decade ago. I close my eyes and imagine I am back in my front yard... long ago.....
------------------------------------------------
My entry to the Vapourlypse Contest. In case anyone's wondering how the island came to be inside the barn (which has only 1 wall because I ran out of bricks, and thus you see the FP mountains and blue sky), it fell down and rolled into the barn. I couldn't figure out how to put that into the story. >.>
Anyway, C and C?
IMO, one of my better scenes.
Inspired by Bricko and TheBricks.
