design tip of the week 11/24
Interior Design Tip Of The Week : Make a smaller room feel larger without sacrificing style:
■Make use of vertical lines and lead the eye upward where possible. This can be done by elongating draperies as tall as possible or stacking similar frame style artwork or mirrors (one above the other).
■ Use repetition of similar items to create a visual tempo to lead the eye around the space.
■ Mirrors are a great trick. Try placing one opposite a window to reflect the outdoors or frame a mirror in a windowless room to give a sense of space.
■Use directional lighting (up or down) in corners, dark corners close in a space.
■Paint the ceiling a lighter color than the walls. Darker colors tend to advance.
■ Adding furniture helps fill a room, less is not necessarily more in this case. Furniture should also have double duty, storage and surface space.
■ Lastly, try removing interior doors if possible or replace with a sliding door. This increases flow from one room to the next and creates a sightline past the walls.
