A solar panel array facing the old technology - with its iconic cooling towers dominating the East Kent landscape for the past 50 years, the Richborough electricity generating power station near Sandwich, has run out of steam. It was for many years powered by coal from the nearby coalfields until converted to oil but other sources of energy determined that its days were numbered several years back. It is to be demolished on Sunday 11th March, 2012 and as I will be unable to witness what promises to be a spectacular event, I thought I had better take a few more photos of it before it is too late. This series of shots was taken 2 days before the towers’ demise.
