Answer The Question...
I have been struggling for words of my own for over a week now. I still am. My outrage is too great, my sadness - too overwhelming, my fear - too palpable. My heart is heavy. Is this really 2020? Why are we still facing racial inequality, prejudice, ignorance, fear, hatred, and violence? It has been 49 years since Marvin Gaye published his masterpiece "What's Going On". As a tune, it doesn't get much better than this, but the answer to the question is still disappointing. Not enough has changed. Why are we using the suffering or death of any man as an excuse to commit violence against our brothers and sisters? Why are we using a family's private anguish to generate profit? Play the song as many times as you like. Post your thoughts to social media over and over, but what is changing? Are we learning to treat one another better as human beings despite our superficial differences? How do we get the answer that this question deserves? What do we have to do? When can we stop asking?
To my dear AD CG ♫ thank you so very much for helping me with this one as well. You helped me work through my difficulties with this post. Thank you for always supporting me and encouraging me to speak up! Te amo.
Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's far too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today, eh eh
Father, father
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today, oh oh oh
Picket lines and picket signs
Don't punish me with brutality
Talk to me, so you can see
Oh, what's going on
What's going on
Yeah, what's going on
