Stones in Lake Ashi (Hakone)

My wife and I went on a cruise around Japan this year. This is one of the photos captured while on the cruise. The day was rainy at Hakone. I was drawn to do a study on these pebbles/stones enclosed within a section of pilings adjacent to the Shinto Shrine.
