B.E.2C

The B.E.2 was developed just before WW1 by the Royal Aircraft Factory at Farnborough. The type was used as a front line observation aircraft and light bomber until 1916 when its slow speed and lack of manoeuvrability compared with the latest German fighters, particularly the Fokker Eindecker, led to increasing losses, and it was withdrawn from front line service. The type continued as a home defence night fighter and trainer.

This B.E.2C was built in 1916 and served with No.50 Home Defence Squadron at Dover and No. 51 Squadron RAF. It passed to the Imperial War Museum in 1919 and moved from IWM London to Duxford in 2012.
