Chicago from Under the Pavilion
Saturday when I went to shoot Earth Hour, I started at Lincoln Park at a place that I had yet to shoot before this weekend. The People's Gas Pavilion is located just north of South Pond at Lincoln Park. The design of the pavilion is interesting any time of day, but when the lamps illuminate it during blue hour you get some very dynamic lighting.
I wanted to get some shots that might be different than what I have seen before from here. I will post one of those in the next couple of days. But this one is the classic shot. It's tough not to shoot this when you're here. In fact, when you stand under the pavilion, it is pretty obvious that the designers of the pavilion pointed it directly at the Hancock Building. In retrospect, I think they could have improved the view by positioning the Hancock building using the rule of thirds. I tried position my shot to put the Hancock more to the left, but it threw everything else out of whack.

I have had a lot of people email me recently asking for the best places to shoot in Chicago. I have put together a page that goes through some of my favorite places. You can read it here. The Best Places for Photography in Chicago.
