Reticulated Giraffe, the world's tallest land mammal

with a Red-billed Oxpecker.

This large male Giraffe had just shaken his head to get rid of the oxpecker.

The Reticulated Giraffe is one of the northern Kenya specialties just like the previously posted Grévy's Zebra, the Striped Hyena and the Vulturine Guineafowl.

It is the tallest of all the Giraffe subspecies.

Some scientific authorities propose that some of these subspecies are elevated to species level.

UPDATE ON 23 AUGUST: APPARENTLY THE IUCN HAS NOW ALSO RECOGNIZED THAT THERE ARE 4 DIFFERENT GIRAFFE SPECIES SO THIS IS NOW "GIRAFFA RETICULATA"

Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata

Netgiraffe of Somalische Giraffe

Girafe réticulée

Netzgiraffe

jirafa reticulada / jirafa somalí

giraffa somala o giraffa reticolata
