In Honor of Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom
1926-1967
Lieutenant Colonel Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom had been part of the U.S. manned space program since it began in 1954, having been selected as one of NASA's Original Seven Mercury Astronauts. His second space flight on Gemini III earned him the distinction of being the first man to fly in space twice. His hard work, drive, persistence and skills as a top notch test pilot and engineer had landed him the title of commander for the first Apollo flight. Virgil Ivan Grissom was born April 3, 1926 in Mitchell, Indiana.
In Honor of Kenneth D. Bowersox
Born November 14, 1956, graduated from the Bedford High School in 1974. He graduated from the Bedford High School in 1974. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1978 and one year later graduated from Columbia University.
Captain Bowersox received his commission as a Naval Aviator and was assigned to the USS Enterprise, logging over 300 aircraft carrier landings.
Selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in 1978. Captain Bowersox has been on four separate NASA missions and has logged over 50 days in space.
In Honor of Charles D. Walker
Born in Bedford, Indiana on August 29, 1948. After graduating from Bedford High School in 1968, he received a degree in Aero Space Engineering from Purdue Untiversity in 1971.
Confirmed by NASA in 1983 as the Industrial Payload Specialist, Mr. Walker accompanied the McDonnell Douglas CFES Equipment as Crew Member on the Space Shuttle Missions, 41-D, 51-D and 61-B, accumulating 20 days in space and traveling 8.2 million miles.
Charles D. Walker has served in various NASA capacities, including member of the NASA Microgravity Material Science Assessment Tqask Force, and Space Station Operation Task Force.
