Lucignano - Tuscany. Chiesa di San Francesco
The Franciscans settled in this part of the city starting from 1248. Presumably immediately afterwards, they began to build the convent and the church, which can be dated between the second half of the thirteenth century and the beginning of the fourteenth century, and which must have been at least largely completed, if already in 1289 it hosted the ceremony of submission to the dominion of Siena.
The facade is made of stone ashlars alternately in sandstone and travertine, and in the center there is a travertine portal surmounted by a large rose window in gray sandstone. To the right of the facade is the Oratorio del Corpus Domini and to the left is the entrance to the cloister of the convent of S. Francesco.

I francescani si insediarono in questa parte della città a partire dal 1248. Subito dopo, presumibilmente, cominciarono a costruire il convento e la chiesa, che è appunto databile tra la seconda metà del Duecento e l'inizio del Trecento, e che doveva essere almeno in buona parte realizzata, se già nel 1289 ospitò la cerimonia di sottomissione al dominio di Siena.
La facciata si presenta realizzata in conci di pietra alternativamente in arenaria e travertino, ed al centro è posto un portale in travertino sormontato da un ampio rosone in arenaria grigia. Alla destra della facciata si trova l'Oratorio del Corpus Domini e alla sinistra l'ingresso al chiostro del convento di S. Francesco.
