Boccadasse, a fishing village

Boccadasse, a fishing village into the city of Genoa - Italy

Bucca d'ase (in Genoese dialect) is a haven for tourists and much loved by the Genoese. Those who live in these appartments, with steep staircases and windows opening onto the the sea breezes, consider themselves fortunate. The Italian songwriter Gino Paoli lived here and his famous song about a cat seems to hover in the air over the beaches, the fishing boats, the lazy cats, the girls on the rocks in swimsuits, the busisnessmen eating in restaurants, the idlers eating ice cream, the children playing truant, and the crowds on Sunday.

The name of the village probably derives from the shape of the bay, "bucca d'ase" meaning "the donkey's mouth".
