The Bear Trap Fire was fought against active burning, high temperatures, historically dry conditions and multiple red flag days. The strategy for the Bear Trap Fire was to fully contain the fire while protecting valuable resources in the area, including natural and cultural resources and infrastructure. There were no threats to communities or evacuations during this incident.
Resources included fighters from USFS, BLM, BIA, NM State Forestry and private contractors. Air attack included type 2 & 3 Helicopters, Air Tankers, Water Tenders and Retardant Drops.
