The Moon (saturation enhanced natural color)
Full moon September 23rd, 2010 over Austin, TX. Captured with 2000mm 8" Meade LX200 telescope with a f/6.3 focal reducer attached (flattens the field, widens the view, and turns it from f/8 to f/6.3).
I processed the moon using a technique that brings out the moon's natural colors by repetitively boasting the saturation on a color balanced image. The colors you see are of the different minerals (blue is titanium rich soil and red is iron). The image is stacked and combined from 8 different images to reduce noise and bring out the details.
