Tomahawk

Being a bit of a water dweller, winter in Victoria is definitely one of my favourite times of the year. Yes it’s cold, and I certainly don’t look forward to that rushing brain-freeze that accompanies the first duck dive during a paddle out. But the swells, oh the swells! Large and consistent swells whipped up by raging winds through the “Roaring Fourties”, make their way to Victoria’s coast. Predominantly you will find me riding waves along the world famous Surf Coast during winter, but this day back in July the incoming swell was expected to be large and powerful.

Wanting to seize the opportunity Alex Wiseand I headed down to a spot I love to visit on the rugged Mornington Peninsula in hope of capturing the swell. The swell didn’t end up coming in as large as expected, but the waves were certainly not without power. Here one set struck against a seastack I know as “The Tomahawk”
