Napoli - 2013

People say my photos are sometimes mocking or ironic. The truth is, I’m fascinated by the reality of life approaching its end, and its consequences on our faces: furrows, grooves, pockets, deformities... So, no, I'm not mocking. I admire what nature can do, or undo... There’s no reason to avoid it, to turn my eyes away or pretend to be embarrassed or respectful. It’s not voyeurism, but a cool and humane observation of what I, too, must expect to look like one day. "Once death has set its claws in you, it will not let you go. Deep down, in silence, it burrows in like a worm in a wooden hull. Your flesh will commence its degradation step by imperceptible step. Organs you didn’t know from Adam will force their caprices on you. Elegance will become an effort, beauty a conquest, walking a tour de force, dexterity a discipline, health a besieged fortress and worry a nagging companion." Press the Star Key, Benoîte Groult
