1953 Merlo Catalunya

The 1953 Merlo Catalunya (affectionately dubbed "The Chromedome" in America for its chrome hardtop canopy) was the sweet, beautifully written swan song of the Catalan automaker known as Merlo Motors.

Merlo failed due to a shaky Spanish economy in the 1950s and a mismanagement of the company's funds, ensuring that the Catalunya was the last model ever to roll off Merlo's production lines before it liquidated in 1956. However, the Catalunya, for the few years during which it was produced, was a great success among the Spanish elite and even became an exported product. Most notably, the Catalunya was exported to America, and did well in the American market.

Merlo is named after the last name of the founder of the company, and means "Blackbird." Catalunya is the Catalan name for Catalonia, the Spanish state in which Merlo was headquartered.

You can see the new aesthetic for which I'm going with my marque badges, which is something like a stylized photorealism, much like many carmakers use.
