Brilliant Emerald

A new dragonfly species for me, we visited the Basingstoke Canal which is a well known location for Brilliant Emerald. This species is wary and constantly patrols the canal usually in the middle rarely coming close to the side and so photographs were very difficult. The 300mm f4 lens with 2x converter was too sluggish with focussing and so I ditched the converter and shot at 300mm, the smaller image size meant that I cropped the image later to increase the size of the dragonfly.
