50008 Haddiscoe

The start of the long journey home - Hanson & Hall's 50008 Thunderer leads the Branchline Society's Merry Wherry charter through Haddiscoe as 1Z77 1725 Lowestoft to Derby, with The 50 Alliance's 50007 Hercules on the rear. The charter provided the first ever visit of a Class 50 to the most easterly station on the network. The New Cut can be seen on the left - a man-made channel created to provide a shorter route from Lowestoft to Norwich by boat. The route opened in 1833, but was soon superseded by the faster rail line which opened in 1847.
