Yellow
Male Dartford Warbler on gorse. A short pause in a song 'battle' with a neighbouring male on the other side of the path.
Nothing else (that I have ever heard) sounds the same. As soon as I hear that scratchy song I am scanning the tops of the gorse and heather for the perpetrator with eager anticipation.
I think it is a bit sad that this bird got its name because the first identified specimen happened to have been shot in Dartford. In those days naturalists thought nothing of shooting and stuffing anything that moved. Thank goodness for decent cameras!
Uncropped.
