Sun brings out the ladybirds!

Noticed quite a few seven spotted Ladybirds basking in the afternoon sun, so in my lunch break dragged out the macro kit (see below in comments).

This one was quite helpful, apparently they wont fly when the temperature is less than 12.7 celsius, it was handily 10 degrees today which kept my subject fairly immobile. No Ladybird was injured in the taking of these shots!

18 shots focus stacked DMap in Zerene.

The seven-spot is a migratory species. Large numbers fly in

from the continent each spring.

Ladybirds are named after the Virgin Mary, also known as ‘Our Lady’, often shown wearing a red cloak in old paintings. The seven spots represent the Virgin’s seven joys and seven sorrows.

For best view hit 'L' for large on black.
